Are hybrid cars really worth buying ?

Hey all,

I am planning to buy a new car and was thinking of getting a hybrid considering it’s fuel efficiency. I am confused if the extra cost that is being paid to get a hybrid justifies (makes up) for the fuel efficiency. Read several articles that state that you will actually benefit from hybrid only after 5 years of buying. It would be helpful if folks here could point out any additional benefits that hybrids offer in addition to the fuel efficiency.
